Sonic is a great place to work and gain experience. It’s available all over the country so you’ll most likely find a restaurant near you where you can work. This is why I was not surprised that I received many questions from people asking “does Sonic drug test for employment?”
Unfortunately, recreational drug users can have a hard time landing jobs. Knowing the answer to this question can make all the difference between getting hired or being denied a decent job opportunity.
Sonic Company Facts
Sonic is the name of a popular drive in fast food chain. Sonic has been around since the 1950s serving happy customers. It’s owned by Inspire Brands, a company that also owns Buffalo Wild Wings and Arby’s. The company’s HQ is in Oklahoma and it has been around for over 50 years.
There are over 3,500 Sonic locations across the country. It’s very likely that you’ll find one near your home and will be able to work close to your house without driving too far. This is one of the main advantages of working at Sonic.
There are many jobs you can apply for there. Most job opportunities are for team or crew members. As a crew member, you’ll work in the kitchen or serving customers.
Jobs at HQ are characterized by higher job security and better pay. They’re harder to find and get. Since HQ is in Oklahoma, those living outside Oklahoma might not be able to relocate. Through my research on Sonic, I found that most employees are satisfied with working there and value the experience they get at Sonic.
Sonic Drug Test Policy in 2022
Sonic is a big brand. Almost all Americans are familiar with Sonic restaurants. The mother company, Inspire Brands, also owns other restaurant chains. They have a reputation to uphold and their main goal is customer satisfaction. They won’t accept someone using drugs while at work.
Those who are subjected to a drug test at Sonic will be tested for the usual and common drugs. These include marijuana, heroin, cocaine, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, and barbiturates.
What to Expect During Sonic Hiring Process
The hiring process at Sonic is one of the simplest and shortest. You start by filling out an application online. I found that it’s a good idea to call them and let them know that you submitted an application. They will then call you to schedule an interview either a couple of days later or even the same day. You will need to pass one interview that lasts between 15 to 60 minutes.
People who do well during their interviews will most likely be hired on the spot. For most people, it takes a couple of days to get hired from start to finish at Sonic. You will be told that you will need to pass a background check and start training. Within a few days, you’ll begin your regular job.
Does Sonic Do Pre-Employment Drug Test?
Fortunately for all recreational drug users, I found that Sonic does not perform pre-employment testing for any of its job applicants. This is most likely because the company has a rapid turnover of employees and is almost always looking for people to hire. They don’t have time to test all people who apply for a job there for drugs.
Two things determine whether or not you get the job: your interview and your background check. Showing up to the interview while on drugs will definitely affect your performance. It’ll also show your interviewer that you’re not taking the job seriously so they might be less inclined to hire you. If you really want to get the job, you should be well prepared for the interview.
Does Sonic Do Random and Pre-Promotional Drug Tests?
Sonic does not perform random drug tests for its employees. The company, however, has the right to drug test you if it wants to. This doesn’t mean that it always will.
Sonic usually only tests employees if they get into accidents at work. An accident might mean that you’re not well oriented or that you’re under the influence of a drug. If you want to avoid getting drug tested, you should take care not to get into any accidents. This can be done by going to work sober and not using any drugs on the job.
It doesn’t seem like Sonic does pre-promotional drug tests. It looks like they don’t necessarily drug test those applying for managerial positions either. For more information on this, you can ask one of the people who work there.
What kind of Drug Test Does Sonic Use?
Sonic uses a urine drug test to test people who get into work accidents. You’ll have to urinate in a sample cup so they can send your urine to a lab. The lab will analyze it for drugs and send the report back to Sonic.
Can You Fail Your Drug Test for Using Prescription Drugs?
No, you can’t fail a drug test at Sonic for using prescription drugs. You just need to tell them that you’re on a prescription for drugs that might show up positive on a test. You can also provide the manager with your doctor’s name and contact info so they can confirm with her or him.
How to Pass Urine Drug Test at Sonic?
If you had an accident at your job site, you will have to pass a urine drug test. As most likely you won’t have enough time to detox naturally or with a whole body detox program, if you are a light or moderate user, you have a chance to passing your test with detox drinks like Mega Clean or Herbal Clean QCarbo20. Please make sure to take such drinks only on your drug test day.
But such drinks won’t be helpful enough for heavy users. In such case, we have seen cases where some heavy users have used synthetic urine as their emergency backup plan when they knew that their urine test would be unsupervised. However, there is always the risk of being caught and facing the dire consequences of such an action.
Sonic is a great place to work and gain experience. Many young people choose to work there to earn some money too. If you use recreational or prescription drugs, you should be safe and will most likely get hired as long as you do well on your interview. It looks like the interview and the background check are the things that matter most.
