That’s why I’ve decided to conduct in-depth research in order to find a proper answer to the question. The problem is that people who use drugs recreationally can miss out on great job opportunities just because they failed to pass a drug test.
The problem is exacerbated by the fact that a lot of recreational drug users are unaware of the presence of a drug test. This is because whoever calls to set up the job interview doesn’t often reveal that information. The problem would be less serious if recreational drug users had adequate time to detox. It can be argued that they need to stay clean on the job anyway in order to avoid failing a random or pre-promotional drug test.

Best Western International was founded over 70 years ago in 1946. The brand has been expanding ever since. The chain now has over 4,000 hotels and motels worldwide, with about half of these located in the United States. The company’s headquarters are in Phoenix Arizona.
At such a large well known international hotel chain, you would expect there to be a large number and variety of different job opportunities available. If so, you would be absolutely right. Like with any hotel chain, you can work in housekeeping, reception, laundry, or at the restaurant or bar. If you prefer administrative work, you can apply for a job as a shift manager, hotel manager, or supervisor over a number of services.
Of course jobs like HR, marketing, finance and accounting, along with many others, are available. However, these are mostly at the company’s headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. Basically, you’re most likely to find something available at Best Western that suits your skill set and aspirations.
Best Western Drug Test Policy in 2022
Best Western has a somewhat ambiguous drug test policy. While the company is very strict in not allowing employees to show up under the influence at work, their policy pertaining to other stuff isn’t as clear. Nonetheless, if you are subjected to a drug test, you can expect to be tested for all possible drugs, including but not limited to: marijuana, amphetamines, cocaine, opioids, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and others.
If you’re tested positive for any of these drugs while employed at Best Western, your contract will most likely be terminated.
What to Expect During Best Western Hiring Process
The hiring process at Best Western is variable according to the kind of job you’re looking to get. Those who are looking to work in laundry or waitressing, for example, can expect a short interview process and to be hired quickly. On the other hand, people who are applying for managerial positions will face a longer interview processes and will most likely have to wait a week or so before finally getting the results.

It’s quite unfortunate that I haven’t found a clear definitive answer to this question through my research. About 80% of current or former employees at Best Western say that no drug test was required in order for them to get the job. About 20%, however, say that yes, passing a drug test was in fact required.
It is quite strange that there are two contradictory and diametrically opposed opinions, considering they all the respondents work, or worked, at the same international brand. Perhaps there are variations in response according to position or location of employment. Sadly, we don’t have a clear and definitive answer. However you should be moderately reassured that you won’t have to undergo a test as the overwhelming majority of respondents say there isn’t one.
However, those who want to be on the safe side should ask someone who already work there whether or not they had to pass a drug test for pre-employment. You could also just abstain from drugs a few weeks or so before going to your interview. That way you’ll be prepared for all scenarios. You should refrain from using drugs anyway in order to be prepared for a random drug test while you’re employed there.
Does Best Western Do Random and Pre-Promotional Drug Test?
Yes, Best Western retains the right to randomly drug test its employees at anytime whatsoever. This is particularly likely to happen if you’re involved in an accident while at work or if your manager suspects that you’re high on the job. Failing to pass a drug test in either of these scenarios will most likely result in cancellation of your contract.
If you have proven yourself as a worthy employee and are up for a promotion, you might want to abstain from drugs if you haven’t done so already. Companies are more careful with supervisors and managers and will want to ensure that they’re completely drug free before promoting them.
What Kind of Drug Test Does Best Western Use?
Those who were tested for one reason or another at Best Western were tested using a urine drug test. You asked to urinate in a cup for the sample to be sent to one of their contracted labs for testing for the drugs mentioned previously.
Can You Fail a Drug Test While on Prescription Drugs?
No, you can’t fail a drug test if you’re only on prescription drugs. If you are, just let them know and give them the contact information of your physician. They can contact him or her to verify that you’re on a prescription, but they’re not allowed to ask what it is you’re taking or why you’re taking it. You’re not obliged to provide that kind of information either.
How to Pass Urine Drug Test at Best Western?
As you can face a random urine drug test at any time, or an unexpected drug test for a work related accident, you should be aware of how long THC can be detected in your urine.
Following are three important facts to know:
- Light users- might test positive for THC for up to 4-5 days from the time of their last use,
- Moderate users – might test positive for up to 10-12 days after their last use, and
- Heavy user-might test positive from 35 to 90 days.
However, if you are a heavy user, there is a high chance that you will fail your test regardless of the fact that you tried to prepare for it by taking detox drinks days, if not weeks, in advance. We have seen cases where some heavy users have successfully used synthetic urine when they knew that the urine test would be unsupervised. However, there is always the risk of being caught and facing the dire consequences of such an action.
So according to my research, the answer to the question is basically ‘no’. Best Western doesn’t normally drug test for pre-employment. However, there are a few rare instances where people have claimed that Best Western has in fact tested potential employees for drugs. So, your best course of action in order to be doubly safe is to ask people who already work there and/or just abstain from drugs well before the interview.
