“Does Ace Hardware drug test for employment?” This is a question I get asked often by my readers as Ace Hardware is such a great place to work. Knowing in advance if they drug tests as part of the interview process can be a great help to recreational drugs in preparing for their job interview.
Recreational drug users always run the risk of being asked to take, and failing, a drug test when applying for a new job.
This risk is compounded by the fact that most companies still administer drug tests as part of the hiring process in order to filter out in advance employees who use drugs.
The reason of this is that they are worry about their employees showing up for work under the influence, leading to work related accidents and receiving customer complaints relating to poor service.
Ace Hardware Company Facts
Ace Hardware was founded in 1924 in Chicago. It’s currently the world’s largest hardware retail cooperative, with over 5,000 locations spread over 60 countries. Ace Hardware’s strong American and global presence is one of the primary reasons that so many people look for work there.

Working at Ace Hardware opens the door to many job opportunities. You can work there at the start of your career to gain initial on the job experience. Eventually, you can work in a high level administrative or management position after you have gained lots of experience in order to ensure for a stable long term career.

What to Expect During Ace Hardware Hiring Process
The hiring process at Ace Hardware is a short one. Most people are hired within a week of submitting their application. If you’re interested in working with Ace Hardware, you first must submit an application for the job you want and then wait until they call you in for an interview.
If you pass the interview, they’ll most likely hire you. There might be a training period where they test you to decide if they want to hire you permanently, or just part time.
You might also expect Ace Hardware to carry out a simple background check on you during the hiring or training process to ensure that you have no criminal convictions (which I am sure none of my readers have).
Does Ace Hardware Do Pre-Employment Drug Test?
I did a lot of research on whether or not Ace Hardware drug test for pre-employment. Unfortunately, I didn’t come up with a single all-encompassing answer. It seems that in many locations Ace Hardware doesn’t drug test their applicants; while at others, they insist on applicants passing a drug test before hiring.
There are conflicting reports from location to location, mostly depending on what state you are in.
The safest way for you to know for sure if you may be tested is to ask people who work there whether or not they were drug tested as part of the hiring process. Their answers should give you a good idea as how to prepare for the job interview.
The good news is that Ace Hardware will almost always tell you if you’ll be drug tested or not when they call you for an interview. This will give you some time to prepare for the interview in some way; but usually not enough time for you to abstain from drugs so they clear from your system.
Does Ace Hardware Do Random and Pre-Promotional Drug Tests?
Ace Hardware doesn’t usually carry out random unannounced drug tests. Nor do they carry out scheduled drug tests on their employees. They’ll only drug test you if you’re involved in a work related accident.
Those who are involved in a work related accident are usually tested within 24 hours of the accident. In addition, if your manager has any reason to suspect that you’re high on the job, a drug test might also be required.
It’s not clear whether or not Ace Hardware drug tests before granting a promotion. It usually depends on whether or not that store also requires a drug test for pre-employment.
A store that drug tests an applicant for employment will more likely test as a prerequisite for promotion. Again, you can ask people who work there if you must pass a drug test in order to be promoted to get a better idea of the local store’s testing policies.
Either way, if a random or post-accident drug test comes back as positive, you are going to be in trouble as Ace Hardware doesn’t tolerate drug use of any kind. Failing to pass a pre-promotion drug test can have severe consequences, such as contract termination.
What kind of Drug Test Does Ace Hardware Use?
Ace Hardware uses a urine drug test to screen their job applicants and employees. You’ll be required to urinate into a cup and hand it to them for testing. They will then pass the sample on to a a lab. The lab will analyze your urine and send the results back to Ace Hardware.
Can You Fail Your Drug Test if You Use Prescription Drugs?
You can’t fail a drug test for being on prescription drugs. Yes, it may come back as positive, but that won’t affect whether you get the job or not. The important thing is to tell the manager or interviewer in advance that you’re on a prescription drugs that may show up as positive on a drug test.
Giving them your doctor’s contact info is also a good idea. They can call him or her to confirm that you’re on prescription. Nonetheless, neither you nor your doctor is required to explain why you’re on prescription drugs or what type they are.
How to Pass Drug Test at Ace Hardware?
If you find out that you have to take a urine drug test at Ace Hardware, knowing in advance these facts will help your odds of passing.
The facts are:
- If you are a light marijuana user, THC can be detected in your urine for up to 4-6 days since last use.
- If you are a moderate user– for up to 10-12 days.
- If you are a heavy use – for up to 35-90 days.
If you don’t use marijuana during the above mentioned time frames, you have a good chance in passing your drug test.
If you don’t have enough time to cleanse your body from THC, on the drug test day you might consider drinking a detox drink like XXTRA Clean or Herbal Clean QCarbo32. Such detox drinks are most effective for the light and moderate users.
If you are a heavy user, such drinks won’t be effective enough to drop your THC levels below cutoff levels.
Heavy users might significantly increase their chances of passing their urine test if they compete at least a 10 day whole body detox program, combined with light aerobic exercise, visiting sauna, drinking plenty of water and maintaining a healthy diet.

Ace Hardware is a great place to work and a store that’s known worldwide for its amazing products. The ambiguity of whether or not they drug test for pre-employment can make getting a job there a bit harrowing.
The best thing to do is to abstain at least two months or so before submitting your job application just in case the store you’re applying at is one that drug tests.
