General Motors is one of the biggest car manufacturers in the world. It attracts thousands of new employees every year and many of them ask me “does General Motors drug test new employees?” I decided to do my research on the topic to help those looking for a job at General Motors.
For many people, the difference between getting hired or rejected is the drug test result. Many well qualified job applicants end up getting rejected because they fail their drug tests. Part of researching your position and making sure you get the job is knowing other aspects of the hiring process. If you use drugs recreationally, you’ll want to know if General Motors drug tests job applicants.
General Motors Company Facts
General Motors, headquartered in Detroit, is a multinational corporation that designs, manufactures, and distributes vehicles and their parts. It was founded in 1908 so it’s been around for over 110 years. General Motors has had incredible success since its foundation. In America, General Motors is the largest car manufacturer while it’s number four worldwide. On the Fortune 500 list, it’s ranked as #18.
There are plenty of jobs available at General Motors. It’s no surprise that the fourth largest car manufacturer in the world has thousands of employees across the globe. General Motors has branches in dozens of countries. You can work at General Motors as an engineer, production worker, warehouse worker, material team member, designer, battery researcher, or one of the hundreds of other jobs available.
General Motors Drug Test Policy in 2024
General Motors is strict about its drug test policy. The company manufactures well-built cars that last for decades. Workers using drugs during their shifts can lead to manufacturing errors that jeopardize the company’s reputation and affect customer satisfaction. It’s not just about the company’s image though.
Since complex and heavy machinery is used, all employees have to be very careful and alert at work. Mistakes can be life-threatening to the employee using drugs and those around him or her.
When applying for a job at General Motors, you can expect to be tested for marijuana, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, opioids, amphetamines, and more. The use of any of these drugs recreationally can have very serious consequences due to the aforementioned reasons.
What to Expect During General Motors Hiring Process
The hiring process at General Motors is straightforward but can take some time. Most people say they were hired in 1-2 months but the process can be as short as 3 weeks for some people and as long as 3 months for others. You start by applying online. Some jobs have online assessments that need to be taken first. If you do well on the online assessment, you will be asked to go in for an interview.
Depending on your interview performance, you will have to take a drug test and undergo a background check. Passing both of these will trigger the final part of the process. You will be placed in one of their facilities so you can start working.
Does General Motors Do Pre-Employment Drug Test?
Yes, through my research I found that General Motors does a pre-employment drug test. If you’re serious about getting a job at General Motors, you’ll need to prepare well for the drug test.
It won’t be enough to get through the assessment and interview. A drug test will be required and failing it will get in your way.
Does General Motors (GM) Randomly Drug test?
General Motors will retain the right to drug test you at any time. There’s no margin for error at a company as large as General Motors.
They’ll want their employees to be focused at all times. If you’re involved in an accident at work, you’ll most likely need to take a drug test.
A drug test is more likely if a fellow co-worker ends up hurt or company property is damaged. Your manager might also ask you for a drug test if your behavior at work is suspicious.
I didn’t find information on whether or not General Motors does pre-promotional drug tests. The safest bet is to assume that a pre-promotional drug test will be required since the company has a rigid no drug use policy.
What Kind of Drug Test Does General Motors Use?
General Motors usually uses a hair drug test as opposed to a urine drug test. It’s easier to beat a urine drug test than it is to pass a hair drug test. Drugs stay longer in hair so the odds of you testing positive in a hair drug test are higher even if you haven’t use drugs for about 3 months. A urine drug test is sometimes used but most people report taking a hair drug test.
Can You Fail Your Drug Test for Using Prescription Drugs?
You can’t fail your drug test for using prescription drugs at General Motors. If you’re given these drugs by a physician and need them for a medical condition, companies can’t discriminate against you. To make sure you avoid any confusion, you should tell the manager at General Motors that you’re on a prescription for drugs that can show up positive on a drug screen.
It’s fine to give them your doctor’s contact info so they can confirm that you’re telling the truth. You shouldn’t tell them what you’re taking or why you’re taking it though.
How to Pass Drug Test at General Motors Company?
Hair Drug Test
If you successfully pass your job interview and have to pass a hair drug test at General Motors, you should take the drug testing preparation seriously as a hair drug test is the most challenging drug test to pass.
There are three effective hair cleansing methods that should maximize your odds of passing the test.
These are the Macujo, Aloe Toxin Rid Treatment and Jerry G methods. All these methods should help you cleanse your hair properly. You just need to pick up the one or a combination of two that you like the most.
So far, I have seen that the best results users have achieved are by combining the Macujo and Aloe Toxin Rid Treatment methods, with Ultra Clean shampoo used on their hair drug test day. You just need to follow the methods instructions properly and use the right products.
After completing multiple hair cleansing methods, it is highly recommended using an express home hair drug test. This helps to find out where you stand and let you know if you should try extra hair cleansing methods or not.
Urine Drug Test
If a hair drug test cannot be performed because of a lack of a good hair sample or any other reasons, you might face a urine drug test.
In this case, your odds passing might be higher especially if you are a light or moderate user and abstained from marijuana for at least 10 days. If you don’t have enough time to cleanse your body, you might consider using on the day of your drug test a detox drinks like Mega Clean or Herbal Clean QCarbo32.
However, if you are a heavy user, such detox drinks won’t be helpful enough because of your high THC exposure. In this case, I have seen that the most effective way to detox the body is with a 10 day whole body detox program combined with light aerobic exercise, healthy diet, drinking plenty of water and visiting a sauna if you can.
We have seen cases where some heavy users have used synthetic urine as their backup plan when they knew that their urine test would be unsupervised. However, there is always the risk of being caught and facing the dire consequences of such an action.
